B) Russian seafood supply
Seafood production today stands at 12 kilograms per capita, although not all that long ago catches of over 18 kilograms per capita were the rule. The fishing industry is struggling as it moves from an economic system based on central planning and full state financing to one based on market relations and independence. A number of public companies, holding companies, and joint ventures are established and expanding steadily. Their methods and tactics for ensuring a sufficient supply of domestically produced seafood mesh are various, up-to-date and progressive.
The industry will be also strengthened by more intense fresh and saltwater fishing and aquaculture in Russia's internal waters. State support will be provided for the purchase of licenses to fish in the economic zones of other countries. More effective utilization of raw resources, protection and preservation of fish stocks, development of fishing enterprises are the most fundamental issues facing the Russian fishing industry nowadays.
