Test paper

I. Rewrite and translate into Russian the following text. Get ready to comment on it.

1. Wolf Rock (49° 57' N 5o 48' W) lies 8 miles S W of Land's End; it dries 3-4 m. and is nearly awash at MHWN. Deep water extends to within 1 cable all round the rock.

2. Wolf Rock Lighthouse, situated on the rock, is a grey round granite tower,
41m. high, with a black lantern above a gallery; it is equipped with a helicopter platform. Distress signals may be made from the lighthouse.

A spherical mooring buoy for the use of the lighthouse tender is moored 1 cable from the lighthouse.

3. Leading light-beacons (white posts; white triangles, point up) are situated on Ballast quay, on the S side of the harbour. An obstruction, with a depth of 2.7 m., lies close N off these lightbeacons.

4. Directions. To approach the harbour, steer on the alignment of the leading light-towers, bearing 219°, which leads between the buoys and beacons marking the approach channel. The leading marks are not very conspicuous and care should be taken not to mistake the low white light-structure standing on the head of the S jetty for the front leading light-tower which is within the harbour. When within 2 or 3 cables off the harbour entrance, depending on the height of tide, the leading marks will be obscured by the S pier and course should be shaped to enter harbour.
