Complex sentences. Different ways of connection clauses.

The semi – composite sentence (полусложное предложение)

Is a sentence with more then one predicative line which are expressed infusion.

For the most part one of these lines can be defined as the leading or dominant, the other making the semi – predicative expansion of the sentence.

 

Example: (semi – compound sentence): S1: John laughed= John and Edna laughed

S2: Edna laughed

S1: John laughed = John laughed a paid the bill

S2: John paid the bill

 

Semi – complex sentence

Are subdivided into subject sharing (общее подлежащее), then object sharing, attributive complication, and adverbial complication

 

Example: S1: the man stood = the man stood silent

S2: the man stood silent

S1: the moon rose = the moon rose red

S2: the moon was red

Example: Object sharing: S1: We saw him = we saw him approaching us

S2: He was approaching us

 

Semi – complex sentence with attributive complication

S1: The waves sent out fine spray = the waves rolling over the damb sent out fine spray

S2: The waves rolled over the damb

 

In English we have a strange construction and it is called apocaoinu construction. It includes two finite verbs over lapping round the subject.

Example: сидя у окна мимо меня проехала телега.

 

S1: There is a man in the hall = there is a man in the hall wants to speak to you

S2: The man wants to speak to you

Semi – complex sentence with adverbial complication

Example: S1: He was writing a letter = In writing the letter he dated it wrong

S2: He dated it wrong
