Good business practice

Signal that the presentation is coming to an end

e.g., ... to sum up briefly, before I answer your questions ...

Summarise

- Move to the front of any visual aids, so that the audience can see you clearly.

- Summarise the main points of the presentation in one or two sentences.

- Use short, powerful sentences.

Conclude

- Pause after key words and phrases to add emphasis.

- Thank the audience for their attention.

- Pause and then invite questions.

Deal with questions

- When you prepare the presentation think about questions that people may ask and practice responses.

- Answer only one question at a time.

- Repeat the question. It gives the audience a chance to hear it clearly and gives you
extra time to think.

- Speak to the whole audience, not just the questioner.

- Don't take questions personally, remain calm and polite.

- Some difficult questions may have to be researched and responded to later, e.g.,
I don't have that information with me, hut I'll check and get hack to you with
an answer.

Deal with questions

You are giving a presentation to your staff about a new project. Use phrases from the laboratory work to prepare a short conclusion to your presentation and anticipate questions.
