Б)Перевод ономастической лексики

 

Как правило, в настоящее время существует тенденция передавать в переводе собственные имена и названия путем транскрибирования.

ü Eugene O’Neil – Юджин О’Нил

ü Cleveland – Кливленд (город)

ü Clyde – Клайд (река)

ü Downing Street – Даунинг-стрит

ü New York Telegraph & Morning Post – Нью-Йорк телеграф энд Морнинг пост

ü Harriman and Brothers – Гарримен энд бразерс

Все новые имена и названия, в отношении которых не существует какой-либо переводческой традиции, передаются с помощью транскрипции.

 

ПЕРЕДАЧА НАРИЦАТЕЛЬНОГО ЭЛЕМЕНТА В СОСТАВЕ ИМЕНИ ИЛИ НАЗВАНИЯ

Некоторые собственные имена и названия состоят полностью из нарицательных имен, которые соответствуют содержанию выражаемого понятия. В этом случае имя или название передается на русский язык при помощи перевода его нарицательных элементов:

ü The United States of America – соединенные штаты Америки (ср. The US Steel Corporation – компания Юнайтид Стейтс Стил Корпорэйшн)

ü United Kingdom – Соединенное королевство

ü Rocky Mountains – Скалистые горы

ü Red Sea – Красное море

Однако чаще всего собственное имя состоит из 2-х элементов: собственного и нарицательного:

 

а. Нарицательный элемент переводится:

ü Atlantic Ocean – Атлантический океан

ü Strait of Magellan – Магелланов пролив

ü William the Conqueror – Вильгельм Завоеватель

ü Richard the Lion Heart – Ричард Львиное Сердце

ü North Carolina – Северная Каролина

Если все эти слова употреблены в составе названия не в прямом значении, используется транскрипция:

ü Block Island – г. Блок-Айленд

 

б. Нарицательный элемент только транскрибируется:

Этот прием используется в тех случаях, когда транскрибированная форма достаточно понятна русскому читателю.

ü He lives in Fleet Street. – Он живет на Флит-стрит.

ü -״- Downing Street. – -״- Даунинг-стрит.

ü -״- Alexander City. – -״- Александер-сити.

Если слово city добавляется к названию города для того, чтобы отлить его от одноименного штата, то в этом случае логично было бы его переводить или опускать.

ü New York City – Нью-Йорк

ü New York State – штат Нью-Йорк

НО:

ü Alabama City – Алабама-Сити

ü Kansas City – Канзас-Сити

 

в. Нарицательный элемент одновременно и переводится, и транскрибируется:

ü Firth of Clyde – залив Ферт-оф-Клайд (Англия)

ü Black Hills – горы Блэк-Хилс (США)

ü Bull lake – озеро Булл-Лейк (США)

г. Нарицательный элемент добавляется в тех случаях, когда необходимо ввести дополнительные поясняющие слова:

ü Park Lane – на улице Парк-лейн

ü General Motors – автомобильная корпорация Дженерал Моторс

ü Anaconda Mining Company – горнорудная компания «Анаконда майнинг компани»

ü Columbia Pictures – кинокомпания «Коламбия пикчерс»

ü The Standard Oil – нефтяная компания «Стендард ойл»

 

ПЕРЕВОД НАЗВАНИЙ ОРГАНОВ ПЕЧАТИ, ОРГАНИЗАЦИЙ И Т.Д.

 

Названия органов печати, как правило, не переводятся, а передаются в транскрипции. При этом артикли отбрасываются:

ü The Times – «Таймс»

ü The Guardian – «Гардиан »

Некоторым отступлением от принципа транскрипции является передача непроизносимого звука «р» в названиях газет и журналов:

ü Labour Monthly – «Лейбор Манcли»

ü Political Affairs – «Политикал Афферс»

Транскрипцию названий научных журналов принято сопровождать пояснительным переводом.

ü Iron Age – «Айрон эйдж», журнал черной металлургии,

ü Chemical Abstracts – «Кемикл Эбстрактс», химический реферативный журнал

Названия государственных учреждений, общественных организаций, партий,как правило, переводятся. В тех случаях, когда калькированный перевод английского названия может оказаться непонятным, указывается, когда это возможно, общепринятое русское соответствие.

ü Chancellor of the Exchequer – канцлер казначейства (министр финансов)

ü First Lord of Admiralty – первый лорд адмиралтейства (военно-морской министр)

Нередко перевод английских названий принято дополнять поясняющими словами: Peace Council «Совет защиты мира», House Un-American Activities Committee «Комиссия по расследованию антиамериканской деятельности при палате представителей». Иногда русский перевод носит пояснительный характер, раскрывающий существенный признак организации. Например, Congress of Industrial Organizations «Конгресс производственных профсоюзов» в отличие от старейшего объединения американских профсоюзов, организованных по цеховому принципу, Американской Федерации труда (American Federation of Labor).

В передаче названий фирм наблюдается двойственность: чаще всего они транскрибируются целиком, но иногда важнейшие значимые части переводятся:

ü First National Bank – «Фёрст Нэшнел Бэнк»; «Банк Фёрст Нэшнел».
