Singapore is among the 20 smallest countries in the world, with a total land area of only 682.7 square kilometres. The USA is about 15,000 times bigger. Apart from Monaco, Singapore is the most densely populated country in the world, with 6,430 people per square kilometre.

Singapore is a most enjoyable place to visit. It offers many interesting attractions to explore for those with a variety of interests and available time. Singapore consists only of one main island and 63 other tiny islands.

Sentosa Island is a beautiful little island built mainly as a tourist attraction and family entertainment center that can take up to a full day to enjoy. Sentosa contains several theme parks, such as Volcano Land, Asian Village and Fantasy Island; an aquarium called UnderWater World which is definitely worth seeing, golf courses; and a set of bike trails from which you can explore the island or play on the beach. The ocean is dotted with ships waiting to unload at the port.

The twelve-storey Merlion, a combination statue and musical fountain in the form of a sea serpent with the head of a lion, with a special laser and sound show, guards the big city skyline inside Singapore’s harbour.

You can reach Sentosa by cable car, which offers a scenic view of Singapore, as well as via water taxi, bus or tour coach.

A definite “must-see” in Singapore, if you have a free night, is Night Safari, the world’s first night zoo, featuring more than 1,200 nocturnal animals from more than 100 exotic species gathered from various parts of the world and placed in natural habitats under an open concept with natural barriers to allow visitors to observe the animals safely. You can use either a small train that stops at various places or the walking trails.

Jurong Bird / Reptile, two parks located next to each other, offer views into the beautiful and interesting worlds of tropical birds and all types of reptiles. It is recommended to take a cab. The world’s highest man-made waterfall, standing at 30 meters, is also located at the Jurong BirdPark.

The largest fountain in the world is situated in Singapore at Suntec City. Made of cast bronze, it cost an estimated US$6 million to build in 1997. The buildings of Suntec City have been built in the shape of a palm of a hand symbolising good “feng shui”.

This is only a brief sample of various activities that Singapore offers to its visitors. Other places include the Singapore National Museum, Singapore Botanical Gardens, the Japanese/Chinese gardens, Fort Siloso and many other attractions.
